AACOM has worked with the Interprofessional Professionalism Collaborative made up of ten health professions education associations since 2008 to measure interprofessional professionalism and develop a toolkit for health professions schools to develop and assess the component behaviors.

Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC)

AACOM is a partner in the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC), along with the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP), the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), and the Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPH).

This group of six health professions education associations has worked on several projects together and are planning further activities to make interprofessional health care teams a highly functioning reality.



With funding from the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation, the Association of American Medical Colleges has launched a MedEdPORTAL Interprofessional Education Collaborative Collection in support of IPEC’s work. Sonia J. Crandall, PhD, MS, Professor, Wake Forest School of Medicine, has been named Associate Editor for the IPEC Collection.  Cecilia Rokusek, EdD, RD, Executive Director of Education, Planning and Research, Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine, is AACOM’s representative on the MedEdPORTAL-IPEC Advisory Committee, which provides strategic planning and guidance for the initiative. February 2012 Announcement of IPEC's Formal Organization

Health Educators, Foundations Announce Competencies and Action Strategies for Interprofessional Education
On May 10, 2011, Mary Wakefield, PhD, RN, Administrator, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), joined leaders from a collaborative of six health professions associations, representatives from the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the ABIM Foundation to announce the release of core competencies and action strategies for interprofessional education in the health professions. This special press event was held at the National Press Club in Washington, DC.
