Editors from Eds. From Ann Fam Med.

Medscape
2005, Vol. 3, pg. 300-306.

Review by: Scott Helf, D.O. <shelf@westernu.edu>

COMMENTS: One promising aspect of electronic health records is the potential for so-called electronic prompting and the hope that, especially, for chronic ailments, measurable surrogate markers for the progression of disease may be recorded, and alerts made to the patient and / or health professional for intervention. The article discusses this potential benefit, as well as results for a 5 year longitudinal study regarding control of HbA1C, and the effect of electronic prompting on glucose control, frequency of testing, and associated business returns.
