“I worked for years as a paramedic in diverse EMS systems, while I sought a health career that would suit me. I witnessed many approaches to patient care, few of which seemed patient-centered or cohesive, and patients echoed this. This led me to a decision to become a physician so that I could begin to help patients find health, and to participate in a broader discussion of refocusing how patients’ health and health care are managed.
“I enjoy UNECOM’s curriculum of integrated and collaborative small group-focused learning. Faculty are excellent at presenting the material and ensuring that we can apply it with a patient-centered focus, and are very accessible for further assistance. There is also a strong culture of second-year students supporting first-year students, which solidified my decision to come here.”
