Guidelines for 2010 Annual Meeting Poster Presentations

Posters will be peer reviewed. Because of space limitations, not all posters may be accepted.

Who May Participate

All individuals involved in osteopathic medical education are invited to submit abstracts describing their posters. Please note the following:

  • Posters will be displayed throughout the Annual Meeting in the exhibit hall. Electronic versions of ALL electronically submitted posters may be posted on AACOM's website.
  • The first author of each poster is expected to attend the Annual Meeting and pay applicable registration fee.
  • AACOM will not pay the expenses of poster presenters.
  • The total size of your poster may not exceed the 4' high by 3.5' wide poster board size.
  • You or your representative must attend the continental breakfasts and the refreshment breaks so that you will be available to discuss the poster with meeting attendees.

Guidelines for Preparing the Poster

The total size of your poster may not exceed the 4' high by 3.5' wide poster board size. The poster may be mounted on rigid material or un-mounted sheets that can be pinned directly to the poster board.

  • The poster header should include the title of the presentation, the authors and their institutional affiliation.
  • The exact title of the poster should be centered at the top of the abstract page in boldface up to 15 pt. maximum size.
  • Keep text and figure legends short, but do not omit them.
  • Remember that illustrations must be readable from distances of three feet or more. You are strongly encouraged to use a typeface that is at least 1/4" high. Use Bold Type to ensure legibility. If you use smaller type, especially standard typewriter print, it will be extremely difficult to read the poster in its original or photo-reproduction form.
  • Charts, drawings and illustrations should be similar to those you would use in making slides. Try to keep everything as simple as possible. Captions should be brief; labels few but clear. Simple use of color can add emphasis effectively.
  • Your poster should be self-explanatory. The viewer should be able to follow the main theme easily.
  • Do not write or paint on the poster board.
  • Accompanying handouts are highly encouraged. Handouts are the responsibility of the presenter. Copying services are available at the hotel and at a nearby Kinkos.

Guidelines for the Poster Exhibition

Posters will need to be set by Wednesday, April 7 at 4:30 pm.  The Peer Reviewers poster award and the Viewer's Choice award will be presented during the Awards Banquet on Friday, April 9, 5:30 - 7:30 pm.  The location will be listed in the final program that you will receive at registration.  Participants will be encouraged to stroll through the exhibit, view the posters, and discuss them with the authors if they are present.

  • One of the authors, or a member of their organization, should be present at the poster throughout the session to discuss the poster with participants and to answer any questions they may have.
  • In order to provide conference participants another opportunity to view the posters, we ask you to display your poster through the refreshment break on Friday afternoon.  If possible, please be present during the breaks to discuss your poster.
  • All posters not removed from the poster board immediately after the Friday afternoon refreshment break will be discarded.
