Information for Presentations and Posters

The deadline for Proposal Submissions is now closed.

The 2010 AACOM Annual Meeting Planning Committee invites submission of Presentations and Posters for the 2010 Annual Meeting.  The Annual Meeting will focus on Health Care Reform and OME:  Innovation and Transformation, with sessions that explore how policy and financial support changes will impact osteopathic medical education, how colleges can infuse innovation throughout their curricula and administrative operations, what transformative changes might be made in the recruitment and development of faculty and students, and other challenges confronting colleges as they educate the next generation of physicians.

Peer-reviewed Program sessions will be of two types/lengths:
a) 45-minute Presentation/Workshop
b) 20-minute Brief Presentations (two will be bundled into a 45-minute timeframe)

In addition, there will be a Peer-Reviewed Poster Session.   Two poster awards will be presented at the Awards Banquet on Friday evening:   a) peer reviewers will select the one best poster abstract and b) attendee feedback will identify a viewer’s award.

The posters will be presented initially at the Opening Reception on Wednesday evening and remain inside the Exhibit Hall through Friday, offering attendees the opportunity to submit their ballot for the 'best' poster.

  1. Because of the current economic climate, there will be no reduction of the registration fee for presenters.
  2. All respondents must be available to present either Thursday or Friday of the conference. Sessions will be scheduled to minimize programmatic conflict and maximize attendee choices.
  3. Presenters are limited to a maximum of two submissions, only one of which may be chosen.
  4. Electronic acknowledgment of receipt of submissions will be e-mailed to the lead presenter after proposal is received. Electronic notification of the final status of each proposal will be sent to the person submitting the proposal no later than November 17, 2009.
  5. Presenters may not directly market products or services through either sessions or posters. Exhibit space is available to promote medical education products and services. Please contact Beth Martino at AACOM if you are interested in this opportunity, or visit the exhibits and sponsorship opportunities page.
  6. Every attempt will be made to determine and support your A/V needs. Each session/forum meeting room will be provided with a data projector and a laptop.  Handouts are the responsibility of the presenter. Copying services are available at the hotel and at a nearby Kinkos.

Formats and Peer Reviewers

Participants may submit proposals in any of the following three categories using the form in the drop-down menu below.  Using the same drop-down menu, volunteer Peer Reviewers may select the categories in which they are qualified to review.

    1.  Full Session Presentations, as a presentation or workshop, for sessions lasting 45 minutes.
    2.
Brief Presentations lasting not more than 20 minutes, including time for questions (time limit strictly enforced). Two Brief Presentations will be grouped to form a single session. Given the limited timeframe for this category, there should be no more than two presenters for submissions in this category.
    3.
Posters (see Poster Guidelines).

Evaluation Criteria

At least two reviewers will submit a written review of each proposal.  Members of the planning committee will subsequently review the peer reviews, and original proposals as needed.

  • alignment with one of the four Broad Priority categories and the selected specific topic category
  • clarity and organization
  • creativity and originality
  • appropriateness of format
  • project (if appropriate) track record (duration and evaluation)
  • potential for audience participation

Final decision regarding acceptance will be made by the Conference Planning Committee based on:

  • reviewer ratings
  • participation from as many institutions as possible
  • duplication and diversity of topics on the program
  • time and space available
