On Tuesday, October 11, 2016, AACOM in partnership with the Veterans Health Administration’s (VHA)Office of Academic Affiliations (OAA), hosted an informational webinar to provide an update on the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) Graduate Medical Education (GME) Expansion Plan.

The Veterans Access, Choice, and Accountability Act of 2014 (P.L. 113-146) directs the VA to create 1,500 medical residency positions over five years, or to ensure that currently established GME programs have an adequate number of residency positions.
The OAA oversees the design and implementation of the VA’s GME Expansion Plan and has focused on creating new collaborative partners, including osteopathic programs and clinical sites that are new to GME or located in rural or other underserved settings. The webinar featured an update from the OAA officials who are leading the national programmatic and operational components of this effort.
