(Washington, DC)—The American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) is pleased to announce Harvey Tillipman, MBA, MSW, as AACOM’s Interim Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective February 29, 2016. He succeeds John Roane, Jr., former AACOM COO, who stepped down from the position after four years. Mr. Tillipman comes from Transition Management Consulting, Inc., where he serves as an Interim Executive and Affiliated Consultant.
Tillipman brings extensive executive experience to the Interim COO position, having served as a CEO/Executive Director in both large and small health and behavioral health care organizations for over 35 years. The organizations he has led provide services across the full continuum of health care and operate with budgets ranging from $1 million to more than $40 million.
Some of the organizations benefitting from Tillipman’s leadership include the Chrysalis House, the Council for Exceptional Children, the American Medical Directors Association (AMDA), Sheppard Pratt Health System, NORCEN Behavioral Health Systems, Siouxland Mental Health Center, Woodbury County Care Facility, and Hennepin County Department of Mental Health-Retardation-Chemical Dependency. As CEO at the Association of Jewish Aging Services, he initiated programs and services that resulted in an 18 percent increase in membership, a 30 percent increase in operating revenue, and an increase of the association’s cash reserves exceeding 500 percent.
Prior to his work as an executive, Tillipman practiced as a family therapist and psychiatric social worker and served as Professor and Professor Adjunct at the Universities of Minnesota and Iowa, and at Cincinnati State College. He has also worked as a Professor Adjunct at the University of Maryland’s Graduate School of Social Work, teaching budgeting and finance for non-profit organizations. Tillipman has also written several articles related to his work in therapy and social work, and has been published in several journals.
As AACOM’s Interim COO, Tillipman will oversee organizational infrastructure and work to maximize collaboration among leadership and to enhance processes across the Association. Specifically, he will focus on AACOM’s strategic direction, positioning programmatic efforts to achieve the Association’s mission and facilitate continued advancement.
The American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) represents the 31 accredited colleges of osteopathic medicine in the United States. These colleges are accredited to deliver instruction at 46 teaching locations in 31 states. In the 2015-16 academic year these colleges are educating over 26,100 future physicians—more than 20 percent of all U.S. medical students. Six of the colleges are public and 25 are private institutions.
