AACOM recently held its second and third webinars in a series of three, featuring speaker Paul S. Garrard, Founder and President, PGPresents, LLC. Mr. Garrard is an independent student loan consultant and 30-year veteran of student financial assistance and higher education. His experience includes extensive work with medical schools, their students and their alumni.

The goals of the second webinar, “Student Loan Consolidation,” were to provide AACOM’s Council of Student Financial Aid Administrators (CSFAA) with a more thorough understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of federal and private consolidation, details about the consolidation process through the Direct Consolidation Loan Program, and in-school consolidation and the impact on a borrower’s repayment strategy. The third and final webinar in the series, “Income Based Repayment and Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program,” was designed to give participants a better understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of Income Based Repayment (IBR); how to estimate IBR eligibility; the IBR application process; changes in IBR eligibility for some married borrowers; and details about the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
