Ralph L. Willard, DO, a decorated veteran and pioneer in osteopathic medical education, passed away on January 30, 2011, from heart disease. Dr. Willard’s parents were both DOs, and he continued the family profession by graduating from the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine and later returning to the college to serve as its Dean. He served in multiple leadership roles including Associate Dean at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dean and President at the University of North Texas Health Science Center/Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Associate Dean at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Willard served in World War II and the Korean War as a bomber pilot and received the Distinguished Flying Cross while in the Army Air Corps.
