Interprofessional Education Collaborative to Publish Competency Report

In March 2010, the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) sponsored a professional panel to recommend core competencies to prepare students in several health professions fields for interprofessional collaborative practice. The IPEC consists of the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, Association of American Medical Colleges, American Association of Colleges of Nursing, American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, American Dental Education Association, and Association of Schools of Public Health. An invitational conference sponsored by the Health Research and Services Administration, Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and American Board of Internal Medicine Foundation will host another discussion, stemming from the panel’s competency recommendations. In April 2011, a full report on the panel’s recommendations for educational strategies will be published.
