The University of Pikeville – Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (UP-KYCOM) welcomed the Class of 2015 during a White Coat Ceremony on September 17. AACOM President Stephen C. Shannon, DO, MPH, delivered the White Coat Address.
“Ultimately,” he said, “it will be up to you to recognize your strengths and weaknesses and earn the rights and privileges that will be granted to you as an osteopathic physician. It is a special honor to enter this profession. Class of 2015, it is your turn to learn, develop and grow into osteopathic physicians.” During white coat ceremonies, osteopathic medical students receive short, white coats that identify them as medical students. They receive longer white coats that identify them as physicians when they graduate.
