Dr. Shannon Speaks at Martin Luther King, Jr. Inaugural Health Equity Summit

AACOM President and CEO Stephen C. Shannon, DO, MPH, recently presented to attendees of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Inaugural Health Equity Summit, focusing on the Affordable Care Act and how it affects underserved populations. He also discussed problems with the nation’s health care system, his visions for the system, the primary care crisis, and the Interprofessional Education Collaborative. Barbara Ross-Lee, DO, Vice President for Health Sciences, New York College of Osteopathic Medicine of New York Institute of Technology, served as Summit Co-Chair, and was joined at the Summit by fellow osteopathic physicians and presenters Sister Anne E. Brooks, DO, Medical Director of the Tutwiler Clinic; and AOA past President William G. Anderson, DO.

AACOM was a sponsor of the Summit, which was presented by The Institute for the Advancement of Multicultural and Minority Medicine and brought together world-class leaders in health care delivery and health disparity research who presented compelling, results-driven models, progress reports and future mandates.
