On April 11, 2012, members of the University of Maryland’s Pre-Student Osteopathic Medical Association chapter (Pre-SOMA UMD) participated in a campus-hosted health professions fair, raising awareness and promoting osteopathic medical education. Pre-SOMA UMD President Omeed Sizar and other members of the chapter staffed an information table, with a mission to educate interested pre-med students about osteopathic medicine and osteopathic medical education. Six colleges of osteopathic medicine (COMs) also exhibited, along with the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM). The recruitment fair, which included approximately 80 health professions organizations and schools, was sponsored and hosted by the University of Maryland Health Professions Advising Office.

The Pre-Student Osteopathic Medical Association (Pre-SOMA), part of the Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA), comprises 32 active and nationally recognized pre-med chapters at universities across the United States. Pre-SOMA is dedicated to promoting osteopathic medical education by providing a forum for pre-med students to communicate with osteopathic physicians and current osteopathic medical students. Through these open lines of communication, members can establish connections and gain access to opportunities such as special OME events, mentorships, discounts, and other benefits.
