The American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) is pleased to welcome Luke H. Mortensen, PhD, FAHA, as the association’s new Vice President for Medical Education. Dr. Mortensen joined AACOM on November 26, 2012.

As Vice President for Medical Education, Dr. Mortensen will focus on promoting excellence in osteopathic medical education through expansive collaboration and work with AACOM’s member colleges. His oversight of AACOM’s Office of Medical Education will ensure the effective delivery of services and support to the colleges through constituent group activities, and will facilitate the development of new resources for osteopathic medical education professionals.

Dr. Mortensen has more than 15 years of osteopathic medical education faculty and administrative experience. Before joining AACOM, he served as Professor of Physiology-Pharmacology and Director of OPTI Faculty Development at the Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine (DMU-COM).

Dr. Mortensen has been an active member of AACOM’s Society of Medical Educators (SOME) since 2003, and in 2009, was named an inaugural Fellow of the National Academy of Osteopathic Medical Educators (NAOME) in recognition of his outstanding scholarship. He also has served as an American Heart Association Fellow since 2000.
