Western U/COMP Dean Announces Retirement
Clinton E. Adams, DO, MPA, Dean of the Western University of Health Sciences/College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (Western U/COMP), Western’s Vice President for Clinical Affairs, and Secretary/Treasurer of the AACOM Board of Deans, has formally announced that he will step down from his position, effective December 31, 2012. Dr. Adams has received numerous awards for his contributions and commitment to osteopathic medicine over the years, including an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters by Western in 2005, and AACOM’s 2011 Dale Dodson Award for his many contributions to the advancement of osteopathic medical education. He has also been honored by the Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons of California with its Lifetime Service Award in 2008 and its Supporter of the Year Award in 2010. In addition to shepherding Western U/COMP through a period of extraordinary growth, Dr. Adams also established a vision for interprofessional education at his university, one that now works to join Western’s nine disciplines of study into one community of shared learning and service. Western’s interprofessional education efforts are seen throughout the field as a model for the future of health professions education, and have received accolades for their inventiveness and responsiveness to national needs.
