AACOM recently hosted its second annual council leadership meeting under the direction of AACOM President and CEO Stephen C. Shannon, DO, MPH. The meeting was held September 16-17 at AACOM’s headquarters in Chevy Chase, MD with the goals of encouraging inter-council collaboration and discussing the process and status of AACOM’s key strategic planning.
On Monday, Dr. Shannon and Karen J. Nichols, DO, MA, AACOM Board of Deans Secretary/Treasurer, opened the meeting with introductions and welcoming remarks, followed by a report delivered by Dr. Shannon on AACOM’s current activities. The group then heard updates from the Society of Osteopathic Medical Educators (SOME), the Educational Council on Osteopathic Principles (ECOP), the Council for Information Technology (CIT), and the Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents (COSGP), followed by discussions relating to the topic of advancing the full continuum of osteopathic medical education.
On Tuesday, meeting participants heard updates from the Council of Osteopathic Researchers (COR), the Council of Osteopathic Librarians (COOL), the Council of Development and Alumni Relations Professionals (Dev-Alum), the Council of Fiscal Officers (CFO), the Council of Osteopathic Medical Admissions Officers (COMAO), the Council of Osteopathic Medical Student Services Officers (COMSSO), the Marketing and Communications Advisory Council (MAC), and the Council of Student Financial Aid Administrators (CSFAA). Discussion on topics ranging from driving research and scholarship at the nation’s colleges of osteopathic medicine, to potential opportunities for joint presentations and other collaborative activities comprised the remainder of the meeting.
