AACOM Staff Participate in NAAHP Meeting and Recruitment Fair

AACOM staff members Vice President for Research and Assistant to the President Tom Levitan, MEd, and Associate Director of Application Services and Recruitment Gina M. Moses, MEd, recently participated in and led portions of the 2014 National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions (NAAHP) National Meeting and Recruitment Fair. Ms. Moses led and presented at the recruitment fair, which took place on June 28 at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square hotel. Mr. Levitan delivered a presentation during the meeting. There were more than 350 attendees at the event, along with representatives from nearly 200 health professions schools from across the nation. Dr. Shannon Delivers Presentation at NBOME Summit

AACOM President and CEO Stephen C. Shannon, DO, MPH, attended and delivered a joint presentation with Adrienne White-Faines, MPA, Executive Director and CEO of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) at the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME) Osteopathic Medical Regulatory Summit and Liaison Committee Meeting in Baltimore, MD June 21-22. The presentation was delivered during the liaison committee meeting and focused on AACOM and the AOA’s current outlook and future plans regarding the single pathway for graduate medical education accreditation.

Dr. Mortensen Attends IAMSE Conference

The International Association of Medical Science Educators (IAMSE) 18th Annual Meeting was held in Nashville, TN June 7-10. Luke Mortensen, PhD, AACOM Vice President and Chair for Medical Education and member of the IAMSE Board of Directors attended this conference as a representative of both AACOM and the IAMSE Board. Other attendees included more than 50 medical science faculty, staff, and students, as well as two other members of IAMSE’s Board of Directors. For more on this event, see the event recap.

AACOM Leadership Deliver Presentations at OSEAN Conference

AACOM President and CEO Stephen C. Shannon, DO, MPH, along with AACOM Associate Vice President for Medical Education and Chief of Clinical Education Tyler Cymet, DO, delivered presentations at the international open forum conference of the Osteopathic European Academic Network (OSEAN) held May 30-31 in Barcelona, Spain. The forum, themed “Innovation in Osteopathic Education,” covered a range of topics related to collaboration and the advancement of osteopathic medical education on an international level. Dr. Shannon served as a keynote speaker and panel discussion facilitator, and Dr. Cymet delivered a presentation on new concepts in medical education and assessment.

Dr. Shannon Delivers Keynote Address at UNE IPE Summit

AACOM President and CEO Stephen C. Shannon, DO, MPH, attended and delivered a keynote address at the 2014 Interprofessional Collaborative Practice (IPCP), an interprofessional education (IPE) summit hosted by the University of New England May 28. Dr. Shannon’s presentation focused on the history of IPE and the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) competencies and future plans, and also shared with attendees AACOM’s commitment to supporting interprofessional and collaborative education and practice. The event was sponsored by the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation and focused on a wide range of topics related to integrated practice and education. More than 100 practitioners, health systems leaders, faculty, staff, and students from health centers, large medical centers, and other organizations participated in the two-day meeting.
