The results of the 2014 American Osteopathic Association (AOA) Match program have been announced and are current as of February 10, 2014. Out of a total 2,988 available positions, 2064 were filled in the Match, with 924 positions remaining open. (See breakdown of Match results.) A scramble for open AOA positions is currently ongoing through the AOA Post Match. (Search for available positions.)
The AOA Match program places graduating medical students into osteopathic graduate medical education positions for their postdoctoral training. The application process for this year’s program began in June 2013 and ended on January 24, 2014, with the majority of student applications received by the AOA-recommended date of November 1, 2013. This was also a notable year for osteopathic medical school graduates seeking residency spots in the 2014 National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Of the 2,738 osteopathic medical school applicants participating in the NRMP, 2,127 (or 77.7 percent) were matched. This is the highest percentage of matched osteopathic applicants in the NRMP to date, up 2.9 percent from 2013
