AACOM President and CEO Delivers Keynote at ADEA Annual Session
AACOM President and CEO Stephen C. Shannon, DO, MPH, delivered the opening keynote speech at the American Dental Education Association’s (ADEA) Annual Session & Exhibition held March 15-18 in San Antonio, TX. Dr. Shannon’s address was entitled “Change and Innovation in Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine,” and discussed the many ways in which osteopathic medical education is advancing and evolving to meet the healthcare needs of the American public.

AACOM Recruitment Efforts Continue
After a successful fall recruitment season, efforts to kick off spring events are well underway. AACOM Associate Director of Application Services and Recruitment Gina M. Moses, MEd, leads AACOM’s recruitment efforts and has continued coordinating with and travelling to medical education recruitment events and conferences across the nation since the start of the fall recruitment season in September 2013. Most recently, Ms. Moses travelled to Arizona to participate in the PreSOMA Conference which took place at the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine of Midwestern University (AZCOM/MWU) in Glendale, AZ on March 8. AOA Executive Director and CEO Adrienne White-Faines, MPA, was also in attendance at the conference.

AACOM Director of Government Relations Delivers Presentation to AOA Bureau on Federal Health Programs
Pamela Murphy, MSW, AACOM Director of Government Relations, presented with Ray Quintero, AOA Associate Executive Director, Government Relations, at the AOA Bureau on Federal Health Programs meeting held Friday, March 7. The presentation focused on topics pertinent to the osteopathic profession and osteopathic medical education, including GME, the healthcare workforce, and the President’s FY15 budget.
AACOM Director of Government Relations Participates on Speaker Panel at AOA’s DO Day on Capitol Hill Pamela Murphy, MSW, AACOM Director of Government Relations, spoke on a panel presentation during the breakfast briefing at the 2014 AOA DO Day on Capitol Hill on Thursday, March 6. The presentation was entitled “Policies and Principles Facing the Osteopathic Profession and Preservation of High-Quality and Access to Patient Care.” Other panel members included Norman E. Vinn, DO, MBA, AOA President; Martin S. Levine, DO, Immediate Past President, AOA; and Teshina Wilson, DO, Chief Medical Officer for Henrietta Johnson Medical Center. Ms. Murphy presented on higher education issues of relevance to osteopathic medical students and stressed the importance of advocacy during the current congressional negotiations on the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act.
