AACOM and its partners in the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) held the 2014 Fall IPEC Institute October 7-9 in Herndon, VA focusing on the theme “Interprofessional Education: Building a Framework for Collaboration.” The three-day event drew 155 attendees (36 teams) from different health professions institutions across the United States and offered participants a comprehensive introduction to interprofessional education (IPE) and its core competencies, as well as an overview of the basics and best practices for building a framework and developing IPE at a health professions institution. Of the 36 teams, representatives from five of the U.S. colleges of osteopathic medicine attended, including the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine of Midwestern University (AZCOM/MWU), Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM), Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine (NSU-COM), Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM), Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine (PNWU-COM), and Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (Western U/COMP).
IPEC is a group comprised of six organizations including AACOM, the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP), the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), and the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH).
The next featured IPEC event is the Spring 2015 IPEC Institute focusing on population health in IPE, April 29-May 1, 2015. Further details on this and other events are to be announced.
