Taking Initiatives in Osteopathic Medicine

AACOM, along with our member colleges of osteopathic medicine (COMs), seeks to show our commitment to the Joining Forces Initiative by encouraging participation, raising awareness, and providing resources to COMs and the osteopathic medical community during this year's Joining Forces Wellness Week--November 9-13, 2015.

AACOM's participation in the JFI includes our pledge to help ensure that medical educators have the right tools to adequately address military health issues in their curriculum, and that future doctors are trained to address the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face. This training, which builds awareness of the experiences of military members and their families, is a key component to promoting quality and success in the education of our current and future physicians and health professionals in the United States.

Pledge to Participate

In honor of Veterans Day and in recognition of the sacrifices and commitments of our military service members, veterans, and their families, we ask that our member colleges pledge to participate in AACOM's Veterans Day Curricular Initiative during this year's Joining Forces Wellness Week.

10-2015_Veterans-dayJoin AACOM and your fellow colleges of osteopathic medicine in a special effort to provide students with the medical and cultural competencies they need to effectively deliver health care to our nation’s military service members, veterans, and their families.

By pledging to participate in this initiative, your COM will commit to hosting a two-hour military medicine educational activity for DO students—on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 and during JFI Wellness Week—using your COM’s resources and/or the curricular resources AACOM has compiled for this purpose.

Share your COM's Veterans Day curricular activities.

Show your commitment by sharing the official JFI logo, and be sure to inform AACOM of your pledge by submitting your school’s planned Veterans Day curricular activities using this form. Your COM will be added to our list of proud participants who are committed to advancing the training of our nation’s future physicians in order to meet the health care needs of this community.

Taking Action to Serve America's Military Families

The Joining Forces Initiative was launched in 2011 by First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden to call on Americans across the country to rally around service members, veterans, and their families. Joining Forces works hand in hand with the public and private sectors to ensure that service members, veterans, and their families have the tools they need to succeed throughout their lives.
