(May 26, 2015) Several ACGME Review Committees have determined that they will accept AOA certification as meeting the board certification requirements to serve as a program director of osteopathic programs seeking ACGME accreditation. This means that an AOA-certified program director may serve without an ABMS member board certified co-program director. However, all other qualification requirements must still be met.The following ACGME Review Committees have made this decision:
- Emergency Medicine
- Obstetrics and Gynecology
- Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
- Preventive Medicine
The ACGME Review Committees for Dermatology, Diagnostic Radiology, Family Medicine, and Internal Medicine recently made similar announcements. These announcements continue to build on the positive momentum in the implementation of the single graduate medical education (GME) accreditation system.
