Application Cycle Open: AOA Research Grants 2018

    Jan 31, 2018  -  Jan 31, 2018

Those interested in researching obesity and related metabolic disorders, the effect of osteopathic manipulative treatment on inflammation, or ways to reduce the nonmedical use of prescription drugs, among other topics, now have the opportunity to fund their research with the help of the AOA.

As part of its ongoing efforts to promote osteopathic research, the AOA is accepting applications for its next grant cycle.  Osteopathic researchers—including physicians, physicians in training, and medical students—can apply for research grants or research training grants through January 31, 2018.

Research Grants

Research grants are available for research in osteopathic philosophy, chronic diseases and conditions, osteopathic manipulative medicine/osteopathic manipulative treatment, musculoskeletal injuries and prevention, and pain management.

This year’s chronic diseases grant will focus on the osteopathic approach to addressing obesity and its related metabolic disorders and complications.

New this year is a research grant offered through the AOA’s Bureau of Scientific Affairs and Public Health for an osteopathically focused study on reducing prescription drug abuse and misuse.

Research Training Grants

Two research training programs were introduced last year to encourage physicians in training and medical students to contribute to osteopathic research throughout their career.

The physicians in training research program project must assess the osteopathic approach to one of the AOA’s research priority areas. The osteopathic medical students research program will support supplemental projects of existing research studies.
