Preventive Medicine Expert Panel Creates Presentation for AHRQ/HRET

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has developed a presentation with assistance from the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM). The presentation is available on both the ARHQ and the AACOM website.

 Full Presentation (ppt)
The full presentation has 60 slides and should take approximately two hours to present.

   Abbreviated Presentation (ppt)
This presentation is a shortened version of the first with thirty slides which should take approximately one hour to present.

A group of four faculty at osteopathic medical colleges and one physician assistant faculty member collaborated on the presentation:

  • Robert M. Gum, DO, MPH, FACPM, WVSOM Statewide Campus Regional Assistant Dean;
  • John C. Pellosie, Jr., D.O., MPH, FAOCOPM, NSU Chair of Preventive Medicine;
  • V. James Guillory, DO, MPH, ACPM, ATSU-SOMA Professor of Public Health;
  • Howard S. Teitelbaum, DO, PhD, MPH, LMU-DCOM Associate Dean of Research, Grants, & Sponsored Programs and Professor of Internal Medicine and Public Health; and
  • James F. Cawley, MPH, PA-C, Professor and Vice Chair, Department of Prevention and Community Health School of Public Health and Health Services Director, PA/MPH Program School of Medicine and Health Sciences, The George Washington University - created the presentation and helped pilot the project.

The goal of the work session was to produce a preventive medicine presentation focusing specifically on teaching students (and others) to use electronic tools to incorporate prevention into clinical practice. The presentation was previewed at RowanSOM (formerly UMDNJ) and WVSOM and at Western University.

The presentation is available on the AHRQ and AACOM websites for use by those teaching at colleges of osteopathic medicine, or as a self-directed teaching tool. (Note: funding for this project was obtained through a partnership with the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and the Health Research & Educational Trust (in conjunction with the American Hospital Association).
