SIG Mission Statement:

To encourage and enhance educational methodology and outcomes research in osteopathic medical education

Within the above mission, what specific objectives can best be accomplished by collaborative efforts:

  • Sharing of information on on-going research initiatives;
  • Sharing ideas for future studies;
  • Identifying areas that need to be investigated or developed as formal studies;
  • Encouraging studies between osteopathic medical organizations (more resources, larger numbers);
  • Establishing an on-line journal for publication of articles in osteopathic medical education

Specific Goals to be Accomplished:

  • Compile an on-line catalog of current students and projects in osteopathic medical education (and others of possible broad interest);
  • Compile a list of five studies that could be approached collaboratively; select one or two to submit for funding;
  • Establish a list of links to on-going osteopathic research studies and resource (note limited to education, e.g. University of North Texas Health Science Center, Colorado Springs Osteopathic Foundation Center for Osteopathic Education & Research, et al.)

Initial action steps to be taken:

  • Establish a listserv of interested parties;
  • Begin compiling an on-line catalog of current studies (variety of means, including survey through AACOM listserv)
  • Contact Dr. David Solomon (Editor of Med-Ed On-Line) to ask about publication of osteopathic medical education articles on his on-line journal
