SIG Mission Statement:

To explore, pilot, evaluate, and share learning-centered best practices for application in medical education

Within the above mission, what specific objectives can best be accomplished by collaborative efforts:

  • to research and promote the discussion of innovative ideas in medical education including development, implementation and evaluation.
  • conduct and share literature searches on learning-centered education on a regular basis
  • facilitate medical education innovations seminar at meetings, for example at AACOM and OME meetings
  • explore publication of articles in learning-centered medical education
  • explore other organizations which address this issue
  • explore foundations and other funding sources that might fund such projects
  • establish an annual AACOM award for learning-centered innovations at a COM

Specific Goals to be Accomplished:

  • 1/2 day of next year’s AACOM meeting devoted to best learning-centered practices
  • conduct lit search and share
  • plan and announce the learning-centered award at next meeting
  • provide annotated list of what other organizations are doing in regard to LCE

Initial action steps to be taken:

  • set up email list
  • once a month a SIG member will generate discussion
  • article on learning-centered education on the osteomeded listserv
