In late November, AACOM hosted the Health Policy Fellowship (HPF) seminar on the federal executive branch's role in health policy. AACOM’s President and CEO, Stephen C. Shannon, DO, MPH, welcomed the 15th class of fellows to Washington for their two and one-half day seminar and commented on the considerable opportunities and challenges lying ahead in health policy.
Several other association and federal agency officials, including Elizabeth M. Duke, PhD, the Administrator of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), made presentations on their organizations’ role in health policymaking. Additionally, Kendall Reed, DO, Dean of Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine and a member of the Council on Graduate Medical Education (COGME), a HRSA advisory committee, presented on COGME’s health policy role.
The HPF program is designed for individuals who are preparing for leadership roles in the osteopathic profession and positions of influence in health policy. New York College of Osteopathic Medicine of New York Institute of Technology and Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine coordinate this certificate program in health policy through a collaboration of AACOM, AACOM member colleges and the AOA.
