Dr. John Gimpel Named NBOME President and CEO

John R. Gimpel, DO, MEd, has been named President and CEO of the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME), effective July 1, 2009.  Dr. Gimpel is currently Dean and Vice President for Health Services and Professor of Family Medicine at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNECOM).

Dr. Gimpel has more than 15 years of experience with NBOME, first as a Board member, then later as Director of Clinical Skills Testing. Prior to joining UNECOM, he served as NBOME’s Vice President for Clinical Skills Testing.  He has served as Director of Predoctoral Education and Associate Professor of Family Medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine, and has authored dozens of peer-reviewed manuscripts and textbook chapters on assessment, medical education and a broad array of clinical subjects.

In announcing the appointment, NBOME Board Chair Dr. William Ranieri expressed his confidence that Dr. Gimpel will provide excellent leadership over the organization responsible for providing the means to assess competencies for osteopathic medicine and related health care professions.  Dr. Ranieri also noted the significant contributions current NBOME President & CEO Frederick G. Meoli, DO, FACOS has made to the organization. Dr. Meoli will officially retire in mid-summer of 2009.
