On July 26, University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNECOM) lost a compassionate and dedicated student in a tragic bus accident in Tanzania. Kathryn Brooke Baxter, MPH, who went by Brooke, was in Kenya conducting research on a student government association Carman Pettapiece Student Research grant. Ms. Baxter served as UNE’s Multicultural Affairs Representative for the International Federation of Medical Student Organizations and was deeply involved in global health research issues.
“Brooke was such a gifted, caring and giving individual, modeling just what we would all want in our future physicians,” said Bruce P. Bates, DO, Interim Dean and Vice President for Health Affairs.
On behalf of the osteopathic medical education community, AACOM extends its deepest sympathy to Ms. Baxter’s family and friends.
