On June 30, the NIH Office of Intramural Training & Education hosted medical schools and biomedical science graduate programs at its Graduate & Professional School Fair, held on the NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland. Six participating osteopathic medical colleges’ admission officers promoted their schools to up-and-coming young scientists who were taking part in NIH postbaccalaureate and summer internship programs.
Many of the approximately 1,000 summer interns and 700 postbacs will apply to graduate or professional school in fall 2010. They are a diverse population, representing educational institutions across the United States, and they typically have pursued extensive undergraduate coursework in the sciences and a variety of research and/or clinical experiences. In recent years they have matriculated in graduate programs in the biomedical sciences, engineering, chemistry, public health, pharmacy, medicine, and dentistry.
Participants at this year’s NIH event included: Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, UMDNJ School of Osteopathic Medicine, Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, and the Association of American Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM).
