This month, AACOM is finalizing its transition in leadership and saying farewell to AACOM President and CEO, Stephen C. Shannon, DO, MPH. With Dr. Shannon’s support, vision, and leadership, AOGME has thrived within AACOM. We congratulate Dr. Shannon on his retirement and thank him for his efforts to establish AOGME into what it is today. During the AOGME Chair’s Reception at the Annual Conference, we awarded the 2019 AOGME Special Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr. Shannon in recognition of his contributions to osteopathic medicine and medical education as a whole. Read Dr. Shannon’s Farewell.

As we look forward, we are thrilled that AODME Past President, Robert Cain, DO, FACOI, FAODME, is assuming the role of AACOM President and CEO. With his leadership, we are assured that osteopathic graduate medical education and Osteopathic Recognition will continue the path of excellence and continued growth. Read the AACOM announcement.

Thank You!
We thank all who have renewed their 2019-2020 AOGME membership. If you have not renewed your membership, please take a moment to renew your membership today! In addition, to thank our loyal members and grow our community, we launched a Member Referral Program this month. If you are a current AOGME member and refer a new member(s) to join AOGME, you will receive a discounted registration fee for Educating Leaders 2020: The AACOM Annual Conference. AOGME will continue to host several events and sessions at the conference, so take advantage of this unique opportunity.

Check out new short videos of AOGME members, Dr. Joanne Baker and Dr. Sandra Snyder as they describe what AOGME means to them personally and professionally in our AOGME Member Testimonials web page.

AOGME Programs & Initiatives
As a reminder, if you haven’t submitted a proposal for the AOGME Osteopathic Recognition Curriculum project, please do so by July 1, 2019. The goal of this effort is to develop a national curriculum that will assist GME training programs in obtaining and maintaining Osteopathic Recognition. Read more and submit a proposal to aogme@aacom.org.

In June 2018, we disseminated a survey to all membership to determine the need for leadership development among GME professionals. Thank you for all your responses and invaluable feedback. Working in partnership with the Academy for Academic Leadership (AAL), we are pleased to announce the Graduate Medical Education Leadership Development Program (GME-LDP) program that will officially launch this Fall. The program is a hybrid of live webinars (also offered asynchronously) and a one-day, in-person workshop. Registration for the program will open in early July. Please look out for further information in coming days.

We continue to provide our members with timely and relevant educational programming.
