This year signals new beginnings for us—now AODME members are officially part of the new Assembly of Osteopathic Graduate Medical Educators (AOGME) within AACOM. We are thrilled about the exciting opportunities that lay ahead of us and the smooth integration process within AACOM, which officially launched on January 1, 2018.
The official launch of AOGME within AACOM continues to generate a significant amount of interest from the broader medical education community. AACOM issued a press release on January 10, which was shared widely through AACOM’s media contacts, Business Wire and on social media, reaching over 3.1 million visitors or impressions. Further, the launch of AOGME was featured in an article in Becker’s Hospital Review, with a monthly circulation of approximately 3 million visitors and promotion on social media. The AOGME web pages and AACOM’s announcement of the launch alone have garnered close to 10,000-page views this month and over 20,000 impressions through social media channels.
This is the first issue of the AOGME’s new monthly newsletter, OGME Now, a member-only benefit which replaces the AODME Newsline, and will be the key vehicle for communicating with our members and sharing relevant and up-to-date information, resources, events, articles and news. We welcome any feedback and will seek to continually improve the newsletter as a key tool that will be beneficial to our members.
On January 1, 2018, we unveiled the new web pages for AOGME within AACOM at www.aacom.org/aogme, which seamlessly redirects those that may visit our old AODME site. The web pages offer a fresh look while maintaining and enhancing our existing resources. Among the new features is a twitter feed highlight posts with the hashtag #AOGME, which you can use to share information relevant to OGME on social media. Visit these pages often to get the latest news and updates on our activities, resources and to access the AOGME member-only forum through the AACOMmunities tool.
We are now embarking on efforts to develop new programming and initiatives for our members related to faculty development and opportunities for leadership growth and networking. As such, we will solicit your input on member surveys, including input to aid in AACOM’s strategic planning process which launches this year.
This month, we hosted a webinar on Osteopathic Principles and Practices (OPP) integration with the Single GME accreditation System featuring Russell Maier, MD. The next webinar on Quality Improvement in GME with Daniel Lombardi, DO is planned for February 21 at 4:00 PM ET, on quality improvement in GME. The Call for Nominations for the AOGME Awards was shared widely to all our members and the broader community and are due February 12, 2018. Awards will be presented during the 2018 AACOM conference. Download the nomination form(s) on the AOGME web page.
The Educating Leaders 2018 AACOM conference session content is now available. The conference will take place April 18-21 in Washington, DC. This year, the conference features several sessions on GME and the transition to the single GME accreditation system, including:
- Pre-conference workshop on student advising & strategies to maximize residency match success
- Osteopathic Pre-Conference Workshop
- Several updates and sessions on the single accreditation system and the residency match systems featuring leadership from the ACGME, AOA, NRMP and AACOM
