August 26, 2021

This month, the Coalition for Physician Accountability released recommendations for virtual interviews for the 2021-22 residency season. As a member of the Coalition for Physician Accountability, AACOM was actively involved in these recommendations and AOGME leadership provided input throughout the process. We look forward to discussing ways to support you in this recruiting season during our next membership discussion opportunity on September 15 at 4:00 PM ET.

On August 20, we joined the Association for Hospital Medical Education (AHME) in celebrating its first-ever GME Professionals Day as designated by AHME’s Council of Program Administrators and Coordinators. GME professionals play an important role in ensuring that each learner can realize their professional potential and establish a solid foundation to enter independent practice and pursue a long career providing excellent care. We salute your work!

AACOM/AOGME Virtual Residency Fair

The third AACOM/AOGME Virtual Residency Fair took place on August 6, 2021, 1:00-9:00 PM ET. Seventy-nine institutions representing several programs from a variety of specialties registered for the fair and nearly 900 attendees participated. A day-long educational program featured 10 presentations garnering nearly 3,000 views. Thank you to all who participated in this year’s fair! If you registered for the fair, you can still access the webinar recordings until September 6.

Preparing for Virtual Residency Interviews

As students prepare residency applications for submission in September, the AOGME Residents and Fellows Council (RFC) will host discussion forums to support students during the recruitment season. The first virtual forum, Residency Interviewing and Tips for the Match, will be held on September 13 at 7:00 PM ET and will feature program directors, program staff and residents as they share tips and perspectives on virtual interviewing skills and preparation for the match. The second event will be an informal chat with residents across various specialties, giving students an opportunity to interact directly with residents and ask questions about interviewing, specialty choice, ranking and more.

Additional Educational Opportunities in September
On September 1 at 4:00 PM ET, AOGME will showcase the Osteopathic Health Policy Fellowship with a presentation by Dr. Al Pheley and Dr. Daniel Skinner, to educate AOGME members about the fellowship and encourage future participation in this unique leadership opportunity. In partnership with the Alliance for Independent Academic Medical Centers (AIAMC), AOGME will offer a panel discussion on September 30 at 1:00 PM ET, on the value of GME and Osteopathic Recognition. Presenters will include Director of Osteopathic Education at Cleveland Clinic Family Medicine Residency, Dr. Kelley Raj and Resident Physicians Dr. Alexander Ford and Dr. Lilian White.

Please feel free to reach out to us at any time with direct inquires by emailing aogme@aacom.org or calling us at 301-657-7881.
