Key Updates

ACGME Board to Consider Common Program Requirement Revisions 

The ACGME Board of Directors will meet in early June and is expected to consider the revisions to the Common Program Requirements Section I-V. The proposed revisions address issues that will help to smooth the transition to the single GME accreditation system. These include inclusion of AOA-board certification for program director certification requirements, acceptance of AOA residency training for advancement to ACGME fellowships, and more. Osteopathic Recognition-Specific Documents Published

The ACGME Osteopathic Principles Committee (OPC) recently published a new resource, the "Osteopathic Recognition-Specific Question document" for applications submitted on or after July 1, 2018. This document reflects changes to the Osteopathic Recognition requirements that were approved by the ACGME board in February 2018. View latest updates from the OPC.

Status of Applications to the ACGME

Table 1 provides a brief snapshot of the status of ACGME applications through the single accreditation system as of June 7, 2018. The data are pulled from the ACGME Accreditation Data System (ADS) public site. These data only capture applications of programs and institutions through the single accreditation system process and do not include programs that may have been previously ACGME accredited such as dually-accredited programs.

AOA's The DO Single GME Accreditation Update

In an article published on May 16, The DO, AOA's online magazine, provides a brief update on the transition to the single GME accreditation system. This update includes the latest data from the AOA. Notably, as of April 30, approximately 70 percent of AOA programs have achieved or applied for ACGME accreditation. Read more.

Educating Leaders 2018: The AACOM Annual Conference 2018

The  AACOM annual conference included programming on the single GME accreditation system, including a pre-conference workshop on osteopathic recognition, oral presentations on the latest updates and data on the transition, ACGME milestones, CLER and Pursuing Excellence, resources focused on scholarly activity, and navigating the application process. In addition, general GME sessions on the "ABC's of GME Financing" and "Nuts & Bolts of the GME Office" were featured. View available conference presentations

2019 ACGME Annual Education Conference Call for Sessions 

The ACGME recently announced the Call for Sessions for the 2019 Annual Education Conference to be held March 7-10, 2019 at Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando, FL. The submission deadline is Friday, June 8, 2018. Learn more and submit a proposal.

ACGME-MSUCOM SCS Regional Assessment Training Center 2019

SCS has collaborated with the ACGME to co-sponsor regional faculty development opportunities dedicated to developing faculty competencies in assessment. Join nationally-recognized visiting faculty and trained college and community-based teaching faculty for a focused three-and-a-half-day course that provides participants with a concentrated dose of materials and activities on evaluation and assessment. Participants will learn and employ multiple assessment tools and strategies, including an experiential component developing skills in feedback and direct observation. Register today!
