New Resources: Osteopathic Recognition

The ACGME recently posted two new resources for programs with questions about Initial Recognition site visits and reviews and an updated Application Instruction Guide. Both resources can now be found on the ACGME's Osteopathic Recognition page. The document entitled "Initial Site Visit and Reviews" is set up in a Question and Answer format. Status of Applications to the ACGME

Table 1 provides a brief snapshot of the status of ACGME applications through the single accreditation system as of August 22, 2018. The data are pulled from the ACGME Accreditation Data System (ADS) public site. These data only capture applications of programs and institutions through the single accreditation system process and do not include programs that may have been previously ACGME accredited such as dually-accredited programs.

AACOM Student Webinar: Advanced Interviewing Strategies 

On Monday, August 20, AACOM hosted a webinar for osteopathic medical students who are preparing for the residency application and interview process. This webinar provided tips and strategies from the perspective of a current emergency medicine resident. The information shared is especially relevant for fourth-year osteopathic medical students navigating the 2019 residency selection process.. Featured speakers included:

2019 Residency Match Resources 

In preparation for the 2019 AOA NMS Match, the AOA Opportunities website now displays updated information on match participation for AOA programs. AOA Opportunities

As we transition to the single GME accreditation system, programs will achieve ACGME accreditation and will drop their AOA approval status and therefore will no longer be displayed in the AOA's Opportunities database. To assist students in tracking these programs, the AOA created a list of all AOA-approved programs that fully transitioned to ACGME accreditation. This list is updated regularly and available on the AOA's Opportunities site. View the list of former AOA programs that have transitioned to ACGME accreditation.

Peer-to-Peer Advice: Attaining Continued Accreditation in Family Medicine

AOGME will host a webinar on September 5 at 7:00 PM ET featuring Saroj Misra, DO, FACOFP, that will provide peer-to-peer advice to family medicine programs who are preparing for the continued accreditation review process. Learn more and register for the webinar.

Peer-to-Peer Advice: Moving from Initial to Continued Accreditation for Internal Medicine Programs

This webinar, featuring Mo Som, DO, MS and will be held on September 26 at 4:00 PM ET, will assist internal medicine program directors by providing advice to move from initial to continued accreditation. The webinar will focus on the do's and don'ts of preparing for the accreditation site visit, as well as understanding expectations for program directors, faculty and residents on site visit day. Research and Scholarship: Developing Your Data Analysis

This webinar, featuring Mark Speicher, PhD, MHA and  Suporn Sukpraprut-Braaten, PhD, MSc, MA will be held on September 19 at 4:00 PM ET and will review the process of developing your measurable constructs, assessing the value of proxy measures, identifying variable types, and selecting the proper analyses and statistical methods to perform your hypothesis tests. Register for the webinar.

Call for Abstracts for Educating Leaders 2019: The AACOM Annual Conference

The Educating Leaders 2019 call for abstracts is open. We highly encourage you to submit an abstract for the conference, which will be held on April 10-13, 2019 in Washington, DC. With seven unique osteopathic medical education (OME)-related focus areas to choose from, this year's program will feature a broad variety of research, scholarly work, and education or other best practices from across the OME continuum.

Topics include:
