This has been a landmark year for us as we found our new home within AACOM and integrated as the Assembly of Osteopathic Graduate Medical Educators (AOGME) starting on January 1, 2018. We are proud to continue to serve as your professional home for connecting with and learning from fellow leaders, educators, and friends—thank you for your support and enthusiasm during this time of change.
We started the year with an intensive review of our membership offerings and member needs through the help of a marketing firm, McKinley Advisors, which included member surveys and interviews. This work will help inform our plans in 2019 and beyond. In addition, we conducted a survey in partnership with the Academy of Academic Leadership (AAL) to determine the leadership development needs for GME professionals. This has informed our plans for a future leadership development program that we hope to unveil in 2019.
In April, members convened in Washington, DC for an engaging annual conference where the new board was installed, new Collegium of Fellows were inducted, and awards were bestowed. In the summer, we finalized a strategic framework guided by AACOM’s strategic plan that is now directing our daily work. Shortly thereafter, we created an online community and mechanism for osteopathic graduate medical educators and those interested in osteopathic GME to connect through an online forum, Advance OGME.
In early fall, we launched the AOGME Residents and Fellows Council, an exciting new body within AACOM that encompasses trainees and future leaders in osteopathic medicine and medical education. Throughout the year, we offered educational programming through monthly or bi-monthly webinars on a range of topics including Osteopathic Recognition, scholarship and research, accreditation, wellness, and more. View upcoming and on-demand webinars on the redesigned AOGME webinar series webpage.
