Key Updates

ACGME Review Committees Seeking Nominations

Several ACGME Review Committees are currently seeking nominations for members including resident and public members. The Review Committee of Allergy and Immunology, Colon and Rectal Surgery, Family Medicine, Medical Genetics and Genomics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Opthalmology, Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine, Osteopathic Principles Committee, Otolaryngology and Plastic Surgery are currently seeking resident members. Status of Applications to the ACGME

Table 1 provides a brief snapshot of the status of ACGME applications through the single accreditation system as of July 23, 2019. The data are pulled from the ACGME Accreditation Data System (ADS) public site. These data only capture applications of programs and institutions through the single accreditation system process and do not include programs that may have been previously ACGME accredited, such as dually-accredited programs.

Resources on the Residency Match

NRMP Webinar Resource: Role of Osteopathic Medical School Officials 

On June 11, 2019, the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) held a webinar designed to help NRMP osteopathic medical school officials better understand NRMP policies related to osteopathic senior students and how to perform school-based functions in the Registration, Ranking, and Results (R3) system. The webinar featured in the July issue of the NRMP's newsletter, IlluminatorThe webinar recording will be available on the NRMP's website at www.nrmp.org

AACOM Student Webinar Recording: Advanced Interviewing Strategies for Residency

On Monday, August 20, 2018, AACOM hosted a webinar for osteopathic medical students who are preparing for the residency application and interview process. This webinar provided tips and strategies from the perspective of a current emergency medicine resident and may be helpful to entering fourth-year medical students preparing for the residency match process. ERAS 2019 Timeline and NRMP 2020 Match Calendar 

The ERAS 2019 timeline for ACGME-accredited residencies is available on the ERAS website. Applicants start applying to ACGME-accredited residency programs on September 5 and programs start receiving applications on September 15. The NRMP Match Calendar highlights September 15, when the 2020 Match Registration opens.

Save the Date: Update on the Single GME Accreditation Process and ACGME Appeals Process Post June 30, 2020

On August 7, 2019, the AOGME will host a webinar featuring Lorenzo Pence, DO, Senior Vice President, Osteopathic Accreditation at the ACGME, on the ACGME appeals process after the transition to the single GME accreditation system officially concludes on June 30, 2020. An update on the single GME accreditation system process will also be provide. Registration information is forthcoming. 

Building a Culture of Well-Being

On Wednesday, June 19 at 4:00 PM ET, AOGME hosted a webinar featuring Laurie Hommema, MD. This webinar discussed the differences between personal and system drivers of physician burnout, and mitigation techniques for both. The webinar will help programs and institutions build a culture of well-being while approaching well-being from a systematic standpoint. View the webinar recording and slides.

Clinical Competency Committee: ACGME Standards and a Case Study of University Residency Programs

On May 29, 2019 at 4:00 PM ET, Joanne Baker, DO, reviewed the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) standards for the Clinical Competency Committee (CCC). This presentation included a case review of the CCC's at the nine residency programs at Western Michigan University (WMU) Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine over the last six years. View the webinar recording and slides.

The New ACGME Common Program Requirements

On June 12, 2019 at 4:00 PM ET, Lorenzo Pence, DO, provided an overview of the changes to the ACGME Common Program Requirements that become effective July 1, 2019. The webinar reviewed the key revisions and timeline for implementation. The webinar recording and slides are available here.
