Update on the Single GME Accreditation Process and ACGME Appeals Process Post June 30, 2020

On August 7, 2019, the AOGME hosted a webinar featuring Lorenzo Pence, DO, Senior Vice President, Osteopathic Accreditation at the ACGME, on the ACGME appeals process after the transition to the single GME accreditation system officially concludes on June 30, 2020. An update on the single GME accreditation system process was also provided. View the webinar recording and slides.

Request for Approval for the ONMM1 Year

The ACGME Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (ONMM) Review Committee is accepting requests from programs that seek to educate residents in the ONMM1 year. The process to request approval for the ONMM1 Year is available on the Learn more

The DO Article: DO Representation on ACGME Board Expands

The DO magazine featured an article on August 14, 2019, highlighting the single GME accreditation system presentation during the AOA House of Delegates. The presentation, delivered by Boyd Buser, DO and Thomas Nasca, MD, MACP provided a recap on the progress of the transition and key accomplishments. A key update referenced the ACGME bylaws that include eight AOA and AACOM nominated members on the ACGME Board of Directors by 2020. Currently six DOs serve on its Board of Directors, two more will join by 2020. Read more.

ACGME Features Dr. Nasca Address at AOA House of Delegates 

In a recent news feature, the ACGME highlighted Dr. Thomas Nasca's address at the AOA House of Delegates on the progress of implementing a single GME accreditation system on July 26, 2019. Dr. Nasca highlighted participation of osteopathic physicians in the ACGME, including 67 DOs now serving on Review and Recognition Committees, including four chairs and four vice chairs. Read more.

Status of Applications to the ACGME

Table 1 provides a brief snapshot of the status of ACGME applications through the single accreditation system as of August 21, 2019. The data are pulled from the ACGME Accreditation Data System (ADS) public site. These data only capture applications of programs and institutions through the single accreditation system process and do not include programs that may have been previously ACGME accredited, such as dually-accredited programs.
