June 30, 2021
The graduate medical education (GME) community kicks off another academic year tomorrow, marking the beginning of an exceptionally busy month for program leadership and staff, interns, residents, and fellow physicians. Join our next AOGME hosted peer-to-peer discussion forum on July 21 at 4:00 PM ET to connect and discuss your experiences in the new academic year and your plans for the recruitment season and the 2022 match.
Next month also marks the beginning of AOGME’s continuous strategic planning efforts with a Board retreat to examine the current strategic framework. The board will ensure alignment with AACOM’s strategic plan and the needs of the GME community. The AACOM Board of Deans approved the changes to the AOGME bylaws last week, which were approved by the AOGME membership in May. As such, we are pleased to welcome Lorenzo Pence, DO, Senior Vice President, Osteopathic Accreditation at the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), on the AOGME Board as a non-voting member.
AACOM/AOGME Virtual Residency Fair
For a second year, we are pleased to hold the AACOM/AOGME Virtual Residency Fair that will take place on August 6, 2021, 1:00-9:00 PM ET. The cost for programs to participate is $140, AOGME members will receive a $40 discount for a total program/booth cost of $100. Last year’s virtual fairs were a success and feedback received indicates that the connections made with students at the fairs were helpful during the residency selection process. Several requests have already been received for this year’s fairs. Pre-register your program for the fair today!
AOGME Webinar Series
To open the AOGME webinar series for the summer, we are pleased to be joined by Laney McDougal, Director of Medically Underserved Areas/Populations (MUA/P) and GME at the ACGME on July 14 at 4:00 PM ET. Ms. McDougal will give a presentation on the ACGME’s rural track program designation and ACGME’s framework's goal of expanding GME into rural and underserved areas. Register for the webinar today.
In the fall, the AOGME Education Committee has planned several educational offerings including an engaging series on the Osteopathic Health Policy Fellowship to encourage AOGME members to participate in this unique leadership opportunity. On September 30 at 1:00 PM ET, we are pleased to partner with the Alliance for Independent Academic Medical Centers (AIAMC) to offer a panel discussion on the value of GME and Osteopathic Recognition. Presenters will include a Director of Osteopathic Education and residents from the Cleveland Clinic. In addition, webinars on recruitment and the residency match, clinical learning environment review and more will soon be available to members. Stay tuned for updates on the AOGME’s webinar series page.
AOGME Pilot Institutional Model
The AOGME is launching a pilot institutional membership program that will offer an institutional membership structure to interested institutions. The pilot programs will help the AOGME determine the structure and best mix of resources, services, and support for institutional members. To help with this effort, we would like your input through a brief poll to determine the institutional membership structure that best meets your needs. In addition, you can indicate if you are interested in participating in the institutional membership pilot or learning more. We have extended the deadline for feedback to July 21, please complete the questionnaire by July 21, 2021.
We thank all who have renewed their 2021-2022 AOGME membership! If you still need to review, please take a moment to renew your membership today.
