My name is Shelly Gupta, and I am an OMS-III at University of Pikeville-Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (UP-KYCOM) and will be serving as your National Diversity Representative for the 2019-2020 academic year! I attended Washington University in St. Louis for my Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology with minors in Biology and Communication Design. I took a gap year to pursue clinical research in Anesthesiology at the School of Medicine. I then returned to my home in eastern Kentucky to begin medical school.
At UP-KYCOM I served as SGA 1st Vice President, where I created an ad hoc Diversity Committee that laid the groundwork for a campus-wide conversation on diversity with initiatives such as Safe Zone trainings, the “Beyond the White Coat” Project, and the #IAmYourStudentDoctor Campaign. During my time as a General Council Member, I saw the impact COSGP had on our osteopathic education and wanted to utilize my passion for diversity and inclusion to continue to serve.
I am excited and honored to work with the amazing student leaders on the COSGP Executive Board and General Council. I aim to be a resource for diversity initiatives at your COMs, for personal knowledge and growth, as well as a helping hand where needed. Please don’t hesitate to reach out or let me know how I can better serve you!
