“As an undergraduate, I was involved in several basic research projects and had planned on attending graduate school to pursue a PhD. It was during an internship with a local general surgeon that I began to understand that the ultimate goal of any scientific discovery is the betterment of human health. After that experience, I was committed to finding a program that would allow me to couple my love of research with a medical education focused on the patient. With a rigorous curriculum grounded in biomedical sciences, interpersonal communication, cultural competency and clinical immersion, osteopathic medicine was an easy choice. The education I have received thus far in the combined DO/PhD program at OU-HCOM has far exceeded my expectations. As I prepare to finish my PhD and transition back to clinical work, I am confident that I have the necessary tools to excel not only as a scientist, but also as a socially aware physician.”
