“Being a person who enjoys helping others, loves being part of a team, and desires to be a lifelong learner, medicine seemed to be the perfect fit for me. During my journey to become a physician, I was given the opportunity to shadow both allopathic and osteopathic physicians. The fulfillment I felt each day that I spent with the osteopathic physician was indescribable. I admire the osteopathic approach in putting great emphasis on patient-centered, hands-on, holistic care, and I appreciate the osteopathic philosophy of showing compassion to each and every patient. I desire to become an osteopathic physician because the principles and practices of the osteopathic profession align with my philosophy and love for others.

“VCOM’s commitment to preparing globally minded and community-focused physicians, as well as to educate students who are compassionate, knowledgeable, and committed to quality health care for all is what interested me in this school. VCOM prides itself on its one-of-a-kind ‘family’ atmosphere, and I am proud to be a part of the VCOM family. Not only does my medical school have the most supportive and caring faculty, staff, and students, but it also provides extraordinary learning opportunities for its students. The Appalachian and International outreach programs allow students to learn how to provide excellent care in both rural areas and developing countries. Additionally, VCOM has a state-of-the-art simulation and educational technology center where students learn osteopathic manipulative medicine and develop clinical skills by working with standardized patients. I would not trade the opportunity to attend VCOM for anything!"
