“For me, osteopathic medicine was an easy choice. Treating patients holistically with the osteopathic tenants and principles that are emphasized throughout our education, I feel, is how medicine should be practiced. That was first and foremost what drew my attention to osteopathic medicine. Growing up in a rural area, with a population of less than 2,000, I had a special understanding of the importance of rural health and a true appreciation for preventive medicine. These factors were a priority when choosing VCOM as my path for the next four years. My life's experiences made me realize how important prevention is in our uphill battle against obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and other disease processes. VCOM's early introduction in clinical medicine and communication, and its emphasis on preventive care, were vital in my decision. With these attributes in mind, studying osteopathic medicine at VCOM was the clear choice.”
