“As a Jamaican woman from a family of athletes, running is in my genes, as well as my blood. But when severe knee pains forced me to abandon the sport, I was exposed to physicians who lacked empathy and denied the power of a routine physical exam. Their assessments and therapy were based solely on radiological imaging, ignoring anatomical and mechanical factors that were contributing to my injury.

“I chose osteopathic medicine to strengthen my ability to diagnose and treat with my hands. WesternU/COMP has taught me to use my palpation skills to support rather than rely on the diagnostic evidence radiologic tools provide. The ‘DO touch’ is not only a mantra at WesternU/COMP, it is a lifestyle. WesternU/COMP  is a good fit for me because I have been able to treat others with neuromuscular problems similar to mine since my first semester as a medical student.”
