“The osteopathic profession provides a true sense of community for all its members. Entering the field is analogous to joining a family, where camaraderie, brotherhood, and teamwork are fostered at every level – from medical students to retired physicians. Osteopathic medicine promotes individual creativity and learning, while simultaneously cultivating a field of professionals who are driven by the same overarching goals – patient-centered, whole-body health. I chose WesternU/COMP because of its strong academic history, combined with its emphasis on developing caring, compassionate physicians who embrace lifelong learning. The beautiful California campus is located in the heart of a diverse community, providing the opportunity to work and learn firsthand in an underserved community. The exchange program with our campus in rural Oregon also provides additional options for gaining new perspectives. Finally, the emphasis on innovative learning, such as the Interprofessional Education program, has allowed me to better prepare to meet the needs of patients, and to better communicate with other providers.”
