FAQs on ABFM Certification Pathway for Osteopathic Physicians
The American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) recently posted FAQs and a reference table for osteopathic physicians on ABFM certification pathways. ABFM announced its decision to welcome DOs who have completed training in a three-year AOA-approved family medicine program or an AOA-approved program that has received ACGME pre-accreditation or initial accreditation to apply for initial certification with the ABFM. Upcoming AODME Webinars Osteopathic Focused Grand Rounds: Supporting an Osteopathic Learning Environment
This webinar will be a joint presentation from the AODME and the American Academy of Osteopathy (AAO) and will be held Wednesday, December 13, 2017. The session will feature presenters Michael Rowane, DO

Educating Leaders 2018: Joint AACOM & AODME Conference 2018
The upcoming AACOM/AODME annual conference will include programming on the single GME accreditation system, including a pre-conference workshop on osteopathic recognition, oral presentations on the latest updates and data on the SAS transition, ACGME milestones, CLER and Pursuing Excellence, resources focused on scholarly activity, and navigating the application process. ACGME/AODME Pre-Conference for Osteopathic Programs and Institutions
The ACGME in partnership with AODME will hold a pre-conference for AOA-approved programs and institutions at the ACGME Annual Educational Conference on Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 8:00am-5:00pm in Orlando, FL. The pre-conference is intended for AOA-approved programs and institutions who wish to learn more about ACGME accreditation and Osteopathic Recognition. The ACGME posted several new educational resources for osteopathic programs applying for ACGME accreditation during the transition to a single GME accreditation system and for the graduate medical education community. ACGME Data Resource Book
The ACGME Data Resource Book for Academic Year 2016-2017 is now available on the ACGME Data Resource Book web page. The report includes data and trends on accredited programs and institutions including information on programs with Osteopathic Recognition. A total of 752 programs were newly accredited during the 2016-2017 academic year. The report notes that during the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 academic years, specialty programs exceeded 40 percent of the total number of newly accredited programs and is largely due to the single GME accreditation system. JAOA Article on Perceived Importance of Pursuing Osteopathic Recognition
In an article published in the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association (JAOA) in October 2017, researchers from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM) found that Osteopathic Recognition is generally valued across osteopathic stakeholder groups. The study examined preference for osteopathic recognition among students at MSUCOM and residents and faculty from the affiliated Statewide Campus System. Learn more.
