This interactive workshop presented by the Council on Residency Placement (CORP), will examine and present best practices on the transition from undergraduate to graduate medical education (GME) focusing on the residency selection and matching participation processes. The target audience is osteopathic medical school student advisors, academic affairs, deans and faculty, administrators, program directors, program coordinators and others that interact and advise students in the residency selection and matching process. It is designed to facilitate a robust discussion around how to best advise students to succeed in the residency matches, identify tools and resources to make the transition successful, discuss national data and trends on enhancing match success, and the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the residency recruitment and selection process.
This workshop provides an educational introduction to the broad field of learning analytics (LA) and an overview of LA in medical education and serves as a platform for those researching and using LA to present their work to others and encourage cross-institutional research. Attendees’ understanding of LA, and attendees’ ability to use and assess LA through the development of LA-specific research skills and opportunities will be improved.
AACOM has partnered with motivation science experts at Motivate Lab to:
These faculty development training opportunities are based on a Motivating Learners Course designed to support higher education faculty to create more motivationally-supportive learning climates by leveraging motivational principles of growth mindset, perceptions of purpose and relevance, and a sense of belonging. These three constructs are significantly associated to burnout (e.g., retention), resilience (e.g., persistence), and well-being (e.g., motivation, belonging. Emerging data from state-wide implementations of the Motivate Lab course (MLC) indicate that course participants benefit in terms of learning and being more willing to implement mindset-supportive practices.
This workshop will help AACOM gain a better understanding of the underlying issues related to burnout and inform the development of success metrics (e.g., instances of burnout, well-being, resilience) customized for our COMs and their students. It will also give you some great ideas for bringing these principles to your own institution. Come help us create and share.
