AACOM Congratulates the Class of 2022

May 26, 2022

To the Class of 2022, the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) congratulates you for your impressive accomplishment.

During your clinical rotation years, COVID-19 significantly disrupted life as we knew it, putting extreme pressure on our healthcare and health education systems. At the start of your clinical training, you were required to pivot your rotations to a virtual environment. Now, two years later, even though the threat from COVID-19 has been mitigated to a certain extent by vaccines and therapeutics, the pandemic continues to pose challenges as its peaks ebb and flow, and as new variants emerge.

You have managed to succeed despite the interruptions that COVID-19 has posed, demonstrating resilience in the face of so much change, uncertainty and risk. Resiliency is a vital skill in a profession as demanding as medicine. When you started medical school four years ago, you had no way of knowing you would be conducting rotations amid the stress of a pandemic. Completing your clinical education entirely under these conditions is an accomplishment unlike any other class before you.

While you were not afforded a traditional path to residency, you have gained much from your distinct experience. You have learned how to respond in uncertain times, how to interact with patients through new technologies and how to embody the osteopathic tradition of holistic wellness—both for your patients and for yourselves—no matter how difficult circumstances may be.

AACOM joins the entire osteopathic medical education community in recognizing and celebrating all you’ve achieved. You are our next generation of physicians. In your hands, our communities will grow healthier. We could not be prouder.
