Health Professions Week (HPW) is an exciting, free, week-long event for high school and college students interested in learning more about careers in the health professions. Sponsors of HPW invite students to explore, learn, and pursue twenty-one different health professions throughout the week. Last year, more than 4,000 students attended one or more of the many events during the week, and over 250 prospective students participated in the AACOM virtual fair. Students are encourage to register now to participate in the event.
Monday, November 6: Keynote Address
Kick off Health Professions Week with a keynote address from Kameron Matthews MD, JD, and Current Deputy Executive Director of Provider Relations and Services in the Veterans Health Administration Office of Community Care at 2PM ET. As a passion outside of work, she co-directs the Tour for Diversity in Medicine (T4D), an initiative seeking to bring premedical enrichment activities to minority high school and undergraduate students across the country. Dr. Matthews will talk about her experience increasing access to care for veterans worldwide.
Tuesday, November 7: Treasure Hunt
Go for the gold during this year’s treasure hunt! Visit www.aacom.org and @AACOMASPreMed on your search for virtual HPW gold coins. Share the gold coins that you find on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook to be entered to win great prizes. Use the #HPW2017 and #FutureDOdoctor tags to connect with other students and join the conversation.
Wednesday, November 8: Health Professions Virtual Fair
From 9AM ET – 7PM ET, high school and undergraduate students, guidance counselors, teachers, and advisors are invited to “walk” through the HPW virtual fair. Attendees can chat with clinicians and educators via any desktop, tablet, or smart phone connected to the internet. We will have representatives from 12 COMs, including students, DOs, and admissions staff, ready to answer your questions about becoming a doctor of osteopathic medicine.
Thursday, November 9: Community Connect Day
Attend an in-person event at a local school to learn more about your (or your students’) education and career possibilities. Post pictures of your interactions on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook, and tag #HPW2017 to be entered to win great prizes!

Friday, November 10: A Day in the Life
The final day of HPW will feature presentations by speakers representing many different health professions. Watch the presentations to get a feel for the many types of health professionals that make a difference in our communities, including four osteopathic medical student interviews and an interview from Tyler Cymet, DO, Chief of Clinical Education at AACOM.
