On October 25, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) announced the release of its second Request for Proposals for their Back to Bedside Initiative. The initiative is designed to empower medical residents and fellows in an ACGME-accredited program to generate innovative strategies that will allow them to engage on a deeper level with their patients and improve their clinical learning environment. The initiative also reinforces the ACGME’s ongoing commitment to physician well-being.
Back to Bedside is a competitive funding opportunity created by and for residents and fellows to inspire new ways of fostering greater meaning in their daily work. For this second cycle of funding, the ACGME will provide a total of $260,000 for up to 32 projects. Proposals are due by March 15, 2019.
In this cycle, Back to Bedside will emphasize interdisciplinary efforts–focusing especially on community and outpatient environments–and will incorporate learnings from the first cohort of awardees.
